National Therapeutic Recreation Week

Whether it is making a strike at the bowling alley, facing-off at center ice, or scoring a soccer goal, children in the Achievement Center’s Recreation Therapy programs are up for the challenge. This week July 5-11, 2009 celebrates National Therapeutic Recreation Week. The Achievement Center would like to spread the word about the recreation services offered at the agency.

The Achievement Center provides quality recreational therapy activities to physically disabled children from age 6 to 21. Recreation therapy is provided to children in Erie County, who attend school, and have a medical need for this care in order to achieve a maximum level of function and integration into their home and community. The agency provides children with a variety of opportunities through its many recreational therapy services: Achievers’ Club, Adapted Sports, Family Program, Winners on Wheels (WOW), and The Sled Dogs.

The purpose of National Therapeutic Recreation Week is to enhance awareness of therapeutic recreation programs and services, and to expand leisure and recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the local community.
To learn more about the specific services at the Achievement Center contact the Intake Department at 814-459-2755 or visit www.achievementctr.org for additional information.
