Taking Flight Program

Is your child or adolescent having difficulty at school?

Does your child or adolescent have trouble making and maintaining friends?

Does your child or adolescent have feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness or low self esteem?

The Achievement Center’s Taking Flight program provides specialized Outpatient Mental Health Services, Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS), and Summer Therapeutic Activities Programs to children and their families who are at risk for emotional or behavioral problems.

Taking Flight: Outpatient Mental Health Program:
Available in Erie County
Provides individual, school-based, group, and family psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management to children. Services are provided to individuals who are experiencing emotional, relational, and/or behavioral problems. This Outpatient Mental Health Program has specific areas of expertise including children/adolescents with: Anxiety, Mood Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Reactive Attachment Disorder, and Depression. The goal is to provide treatment that will meet the needs of children and families so that they can function successfully at home, in school and in the community.

Taking Flight: Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS):
Available in Erie County
Provides strengths-based, needs-driven, enhanced mental health services that give individualized support to children/adolescents and their families. Prescribed, individualized, behavioral health services are provided to children and adolescents who have a psychiatric diagnosis which makes it medically necessary for them to receive BHRS. The services are provided by trained professionals, including therapeutic staff support, mobile therapists, or behavioral specialist consultants, who are committed to providing the highest quality care to children. Program goals may target safety, functional communication, social or classroom behavior. Services are based upon Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) and are provided in the home, school, and/or community.

Taking Flight: Summer Therapeutic Activities Program (STAP)
Available in Erie County
The Taking Flight STAP is a half-day program that focuses on helping children ages 6-12 develop coping skills, learn to control anger, social and friend-making skills, and problem-solving. The program employs traditional behavioral interventions, along with play therapy, therapeutic activities, and role-playing techniques.
