Pennsylvania businesses may now earn a tax credit while helping children in need in our community. The Achievement Center is approved for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. This means that businesses can now receive a direct reduction of their state tax amount when they choose to make a contribution to our Camp Read-A-Lot program.

Camp Read-A-Lot is a week long summer program offered by Reading NOW at the Achievement Center to public schools utilizing EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) funding. This program offers an opportunity for students to foster creativity, learn new skills, develop new talents, increase confidence and motivation, and build reading skills in a relaxed environment.

During Camp Read A Lot, students spend time reading and writing in a fun camp setting. Students entering grades K-3 participate in shared reading, phonics and word study work, STEM activities, writing exercises and arts and crafts related to a different story each day. All students create a story or book of their own during the week as well. To evaluate the effectiveness of Camp Read-A-Lot, students are assessed using a reading interest and attitude inventory. The purpose of the camp is to motivate young readers and encourage their educational growth over the summer months. The interest inventory will identify student interest in reading at the beginning and conclusion of camp.
