Pennsylvania businesses may now earn a tax credit while helping children in need in our community. The Achievement Center is approved for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. This means that businesses can now receive a direct reduction of their state tax amount when they choose to make a contribution to our approved innovative educational programs.

Camp Read-A-Lot is a week long summer program offered by Reading NOW at the Achievement Center to public schools utilizing EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) funding. This program offers an opportunity for students to foster creativity, learn new skills, develop new talents, increase confidence and motivation, and build reading skills in a relaxed environment.

During Camp Read A Lot, students spend time reading and writing in a fun camp setting. Students entering grades K-3 participate in shared reading, phonics and word study work, STEM activities, writing exercises and arts and crafts related to a different story each day. All students create a story or book of their own during the week as well. The purpose of the camp is to motivate young readers and encourage their educational growth over the summer months.

In 2017 and 2018, Camp went "on the road" to Tracy Elementary School and Edison Elementary School and was offered at each location for one week for up to 30 students. In 2019, camp will return to Tracy, Edison, and expand to Elk Valley Elementary.

Beyond the Bell is an after school reading intervention program also offered by the Achievement Center to public schools utilizing EITC funding. Struggling students who are reading below grade level are invited to receive small group tutoring after the school day has ended. During the 2018-2019 school year, the program was piloted at Edison Elementary School. A total of 16 first grade students participated, helping them to make more academic gains and bring them closer to reading on grade level.
