Early Intervention – A Coaching Model

The Achievement Center of LECOM Health’s Early Intervention program provides services and support to children from birth to age three. These services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and specialized instruction for education and behavior.

Services take place with families and caregivers in each child’s natural environment, such as home, daycare, or community play areas. We promote development during typical daily routines such as play, meal time, care routines, and even on family outings.

We incorporate the Coaching Model of Early Interventionwhich recognizes that you know your child better than anyone else does. You are your child’s best teacher! We coach you so that you can use strategies in each day’s routines to best promote development for your child.

Our team of professionals will work within your child’s environment to address your goals for your child. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends can be included in sessions so that each can learn therapeutic strategies. We use your child’s favorite people, activities and toys while empowering families to reach milestones together.

Simply, “I do, we do, you do!” At each session, your therapist will show you how to play and interact with your child in ways which best promote development. You and your therapist will then practice strategies together with your child. Finally, you will practice the strategies and ask any questions you may have so that you can best promote development between therapy sessions with your child.

Therapy is fun! We might play on the floor, play outside, read books, sing songs, teach boundaries and social skills via simple games and activities, and we even join in on meal time routines to help with the various aspects of safe, healthy and independent eating as children develop.

With use of the Coaching Model of Early Intervention, Any Child, Through Any Challenge, Can Achieve!
