Early Literacy Programs

The years from birth through age 5 are a critical time for children's development and learning - the educational experiences that children have during these years will pave the way for their future academic achievement.

The Achievement Center offers two different early literacy programs for your little ones! Our age ranges are simply recommendations. If you are unsure which program would be best for you and your child, please feel free to contact us.

Babygarten is an educational curriculum for caregivers and their babies from 3-30 months old, which focuses on building pre-literacy skills through songs, rhymes and projects.

Babygarten is much more than a play group! Babies and their caregivers will share nursery rhymes, songs, and books, but also get a chance to make fun projects that demonstrate your babies' developmental milestones - usually a handmade toy or a baby book item. Many projects and activities will emphasize the importance of reading to babies, AND parents will learn how to do this most effectively. The class concludes with a free play period. The Achievement Center is the only provider of Babygarten in the NW Pennsylvania area.

Raising Readers is an interactive reading program for families and children from the ages of 2.5 to 5 years old. Parents learn about and practice the Dialogic Reading Approach, which takes reading further and allows the child to play an active part of the reading process. Parents ask questions and prompt kids to become part of the text and elaborate on their cognitive skills. You will have the opportunity to experience just what a Dialogic Reading Program looks like and why is such an important part in teaching your Preschooler how to read. We also go over other aspects of Kindergarten readiness to help you prepare for your child's transition to school!

Our early literacy programs run in seasonal 4-week sessions.
