Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent Child Interaction Therapy, or PCIT, focuses on providing training and interventions to parents and caregivers, better equipping them to successfully manage their child’s behaviors. Designed for young children with significant emotional or behavioral problems, PCIT places an emphasis on improving the quality of relationships and daily interactions. For many families, behavioral issues have become the norm, taking over the family. Through PCIT, we can help bring a sense of peace back into the home and family.

Through regular PCIT sessions, we’ll teach:

  • Effective behavior management techniques for parents and caregivers
  • Strategies to help your child better manage their frustration and anger
  • Skills to build your child’s self esteem and confidence
  • Children how to improve their listening skills and their ability to comply with a parental requests

PCIT is most effective with children ages 2-7 years old who exhibit disruptive behaviors such as: trouble listening to adult requests and/or argues with adults, can’t sit still or play alone, has difficulty taking turns, throws temper tantrums, hits or kicks others/destroys things. Diagnoses may include (but are not limited to): ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or the victim of physical abuse or trauma, children experiencing family disruptions or a foster care placement.
