Safe Start

SafeStart is a program designed to support young children who have seen or experienced a traumatic event such as violence, abuse or any form of trauma. The focus is to help the child work through the traumatic experience so they can focus their energies on being a child. Children handle and react to trauma differently. The Achievement Center of LECOM Health’s clinicians are experienced and qualified to work with children who have experienced significant trauma such as abuse or violence, however, we also recognize that some children are impacted by living conditions, family relationships, severe weather, etc. Children receive an assessment to screen for emotional and behavioral strengths and needs. These screening results are shared with the parents and are used to develop the best treatment and plan of care for the child. Individualized child therapy services may utilize expressive arts and play therapy to help the child express feelings related to their trauma experience.
