The biggest obstacle for students with dyslexia is learning to read. Students with dyslexia learn best with a structured literacy approach, which teaches students to decode words in an explicit, systematic, and cumulative manner.
The Barton System is one of several reading programs based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. It is a multi-sensory, direct, structured, and sequential program designed for intense intervention.
Each lesson teaches the specific rules of the English language, allows opportunity to practice, and builds on the previous lesson. The methods used in this system are research and evidence based.
Students do not need a formal dyslexia diagnosis to received Barton tutoring. An eligible Barton student must:
