Summer Therapeutic Opportunities

2019 Summer Group Therapy

Group Therapy is an effective treatment used for the purpose of improving the emotional, behavioral, and social well-being of its group members. Group Therapy unifies youth who share a common problem or concern as group members learn that they are not alone in their struggles or experiences.

  • SESSIONS RUN JUNE-AUGUST
  • SESSIONS ARE 5-WEEKS LONG
  • DAY & EVENING SESSIONS
  • FOR YOUTH AGES 6-18

Music Therapy

  • Group offerings for children ages 6-10 & 11-18.
  • Increase emotional expression and learn to identify emotional triggers to develop effective coping skills.
    Includes active music-making, lyric analysis, songwriting, and music-guided relaxation techniques.
  • These sessions are offered at the Achievement Center. 

Mindfulness

  • Group offerings for children ages 9-13.
  • Explore mindfulness skills and practice coping skills using the 5 senses.
  • Group for children experiencing difficulty with excessive worry about the past or future, racing thoughts, doing one thing at a time, and difficulty balancing life’s daily stress.
  • These sessions are offered at the Achievement Center, Iroquois Elementary, North East Intermediate and Rice Avenue Middle School.

Brainwise

  • Group offerings for children ages 8-11.
  • This group will explore essential critical thinking skills to improve decision making, impulse control, and managing emotions.
  • Activities combine kinesthetic, sensory-motor, visual, auditory, cognitive, and socioemotional techniques.
  • Ideal for children experiencing difficulty with poor impulse-control, trouble managing big emotions, and/or struggling with making good choices.
  • These sessions are offered at the Achievement Center and North East Intermediate. 

Managing Emotions

  • Group offering for children ages 9-12.
  • This group will explore identification of emotions, strategies for managing strong emotions, and increasing identification and awareness of personal triggers.
  • This session is offered at the Achievement Center.

Relationship Building

  • Group offering for children ages 9 to 13 with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Communication Disorder.
  • This group will explore communication skills and building appropriate relationships, as well as appropriate expression of feelings and emotions.
  • This session is offered at the Achievement Center.
